With the end of the summer bearing down and the fall semester coming up fast I thought it would be good to highlight some sites that I think are helpful to college students. It took some time to come up with the format for this series, but I think I’ve finally got it. Starting tomorrow (Monday), I’ll post one Roast per day through Thursday, finishing up on Friday with a college student version of Friday Fun Links. It’s going to be a blur of writing and research, much more than I really have time for, but I’m challenging myself. I work better that way.

There will (hopefully) be some other posts of interest to non-college students mixed in next week as well, so check in even if you’re not going back to college, because you never know when I might bring you that life-changing website. Or at least a good Timekiller. Even if I can’t find the time to do anything more than the college series, give some of the sites a chance because the great thing about most of them is they can be helpful to non-students also.

Now that I’ve whetted your appetite, try to control your excitement until tomorrow when I’ll bring you Part I.

Update: The links to the posts for the ‘Going Back to College Series’ can be found below.

I know things have been rather quiet on this blog for the last few days. It’s not exactly what I had planned, especially considering the little groove I had gotten into last week.

The reason I haven’t posted much lately is I’ve been focusing most of my time on creating the first product in the new SiteRoast.com Tutorial Series.

The Tutorial Series is a concept I’ve been thinking about for a while now. The plan is for me to periodically put together instructional materials that will help make using the internet easier for my readers.

My hope is that I can simplify advanced tasks to the point where those with beginner to average computer skills can perform them. Much of the difficulty related to using computers and the internet is a result of smoke and mirrors. Disguising simple principles behind confusing language and terminology makes things much harder than they need to be. I want to expose the simplicity of those tasks and show my readers exactly how easy it is.

The great thing about the SiteRoast.com Tutorial Series is it will be entirely free. For the time being and possibly for good I won’t even be requiring an email address to download the materials. They will be available with a one-click download.

I know it’s hard to get too excited if you don’t know exactly what all the fuss is about. I also know that I’ve been pretty vague in describing what’s to come. I’m sorry I can’t give you more just yet, but hopefully I’ll be releasing the first product in the series early next week (at the latest) and you’ll begin to understand what the Tutorial Series will be all about.

In the meantime, please bear with the reduced posting from me. I haven’t forgotten about this week’s Friday Fun Links, however, so make sure to check in tomorrow for that post and maybe an update on how the Tutorial Series is coming along.

Thanks for your support.

On Fridays most of us are gearing up for the weekend and slacking off a bit at work. Websurfing is high this time of week and I thought I’d do what I can to make it easy for you. Starting this Friday (May 8, 2009) I’ll be adding a regular feature to SiteRoast.com. I’m calling it “Friday Fun Links” and it’ll be a single post that includes a number of links that are worthy of being discussed, but might not necessitate an entire blog post.

Sometimes the links will all center around a particular topic, such as an event, person or category. Other times it will just be a collection of random sites all thrown together. I’m hesitating to establish more details or ground rules because I don’t exactly know where this idea will take me or if it will even be something that sticks. But we’ll give it a go and see what happens.

This week’s Friday Fun Links post will be centered around Mother’s Day, which is Sunday in case you’ve forgotten. I’ll have some links to last minute gift ideas, including some of my own, as well as other sites paying their respects to mother’s everywhere. Stay tuned to SiteRoast.com for that list and check back each week for more Friday Fun Links.

Also, in case you haven’t already, please consider signing up for the SiteRoast.com Newsletter. You’ll receive content not available on SiteRoast.com as well as insider news on upcoming SiteRoast contests. If you’d like to register, please fill out the form below.

We’re pleased to announce the official launching of SiteRoast.com, a new website directory and review service that lists the best sites available on the world wide web. In an attempt to thin out the constantly growing internet, we’ve taken it upon ourselves to list only the best, most interesting sites, try them out, and then write a review (if it’s worthy) of what we thought.

There are a few different places you can go to find our favorite sites. If we like the site, it’ll be listed on it’s category page, which can be found by clicking on the top navigation menu. If we really like it, you might find it added to one of our Cool Zone lists, where we’ll list the best of the best in a particular topic. And if we think the site is a real winner, we’ll write a review of it (we call them Roasts), and it will be featured in our Recent Roasts column until we replace it.

We like to think that SiteRoast.com will change the world, by easing the use of the internet, making it a breeze to quickly find great websites. However, as realists, we understand that although that could happen, we’re much more likely to cause someone to get fired for getting caught up checking out our favorite Timekillers. So while we hope you find use in our site, we also would like to take this time to remind our readers that we are not responsible for any negative consequences browsing this site may have on your life- be it work, personal or otherwise. SiteRoast.com can be very addictive and we encourage you to surf responsibly and at your own risk.

We hope you enjoy your stay at SiteRoast.com. We’re constantly on the prowl looking for more sites, so please stop by again, because there’s always something new.
